In 1949, Eicher GoodEarth was set up in India with a technical collaboration with Gebr. Eicher of Germany imported and sold about 1500 tractors in India. On 24 April 1959 Eicher came out with the first locally assembled tractor from its Faridabad factory and in a period from 1965 to 1974 became the first fully manufactured (100% indigenization) tractor in India. In December 1987 Eicher Tractors went public and in June 2005 Eicher Motors Limited sold Eicher Tractors &amp; Engines to a subsidiary of TAFE called TAFE Motors and Tractors Limited.

The engine on duty is a 2945cc three-cylinder diesel engine, which produces a maximum power output of 45 hp and is paired to a transmission unit which has eight forward and two reverse gears. The top speed of the Eicher 485 is 30.81 kmph, while its lifting capacity is 1650 kg. The tractor also has a ground clearance of 385mm and a kerb weight of 2140 kg.

The Eicher 485 comes equipped with a 2945cc three-cylinder air-cooled diesel engine, which is naturally aspirated and produces a maximum power output of 45 hp at 2150 rpm. The engine comes equipped with a four-stage oil-bathed air filter and has an inline fuel injection pump. The centre shift transmission unit of the Eicher 485 includes a single clutch as standard, though buyers can also opt for a dual-clutch at an extra premium. The transmission unit consists of eight forward and two reverse gears, with the forward top speed of the Eicher 485 with forward gears rated at 30.81 kmph.
