Mahindra & Mahindra recently showcased a wide range of alternate fuel tractors at Agrovision 2025 in Nagpur. The showcase underlined the company's continuing commitment towards clean and sustainable farming. The event witnessed the presence of Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, and Union Cabinet Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan, reflecting the government's support for eco-friendly agricultural technologies.
The showcase highlighted three major innovations at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. The first is a CNG/CBG tractor on the Yuvo Tech+ platform that can run on Compressed Natural Gas, Compressed Biogas or a diesel-CNG dual-fuel operation. This design is to help reduce operational costs with standard performance levels, giving farmers a choice of fuels and helping attain environmental objectives.
The second is Mahindra's ethanol flex fuel tractor engine, which uses ethanol produced from sugarcane, maize, plant stubble and crop waste. This mechanism enables farmers to work with a variety of ethanol and petrol mixes for better adaptability, promoting sustainable mechanization. The method also promotes the use of locally available biofuels, thus contributing to circular agriculture.
The third platform is a zero-emission electric tractor based on Mahindra's lightweight OJA platform; it features fast charging. Its design provides instant torque delivery and consistent power output for a wide range of agricultural applications, including plowing, seeding, and transport.
This is in line with their claims of achieving net-zero carbon emissions in India by 2070, according to Veejay Nakra, President of Mahindra’s Farm Equipment Business. Mahindra believes that this move towards alternative fuels- be it CNG, CBG, ethanol, biofuel, isobutyl, or electrical systems, is crucial for sustainable farming long-term and to ensure energy efficiency.
The unveiling at Agrovision 2025 underlines the growing focus on eco-friendly mechanization, mirroring the larger shift in Indian agriculture toward sustainable and energy-efficient farming solutions.Stay updated with 91Tractors for more articles, insights, and news from the tractor and agriculture industry.
