Driving and operating a tractor has a huge risk involved, therefore here are the top 5 Tractor driving tips for beginners to maintain safety while operating it.

Tractors and their equipment play a significant role in the agriculture sector of India. It is an integral part of processing the soil, planting crops and harvesting. They also have an essential role in fertilising the land for good yield. Moreover, agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy as rightly said by Mahatma Gandhi, hence, the role of tractors is quite essential to sustain the economy.

Nonetheless, accidents and fatalities involving tractors and machinery are at large in India. It occurs mainly due to overspeeding, inexperienced operators, lack of concentration, poor mechanical conditions and gradient. Therefore, safety has to be the number one priority for tractor operators in India. In this regard, here are the top 5 tractor driving tips for maintaining safety:

1. Daily Inspection:

Firstly, performing a daily check on your tractor should be of utmost priority. Make sure that the lights are working. Also, make sure to check the Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft and other mechanical components before heading out or operating the machine.

2. Stopping procedure:

Next, it is important to follow a safe stop procedure. To begin with, always gently cut back on the throttle and wait for the tractor to slow down and come to a stop before fully switching it off. Make sure to apply the brakes, engage the handbrake and lower hydraulic equipment after stopping before removing the key.

3. Blind spot management:

It is important to look out for traffic, people and obstacles around or nearby the tractor before switching on the machine. Blind spots are the major reason for accidents to occur, hence, make sure to look around completely before driving away. Further, clean the windows and mirror to have better visibility as well.

4. Check the hitch system:

Using the correct hitch system is another way of avoiding accidents. Use only the controls inside the cabin instead of standing in between or nearby the machine and attachments. Ensure to use the jacks and skids.

5. Check the terrain:
Before operating the tractor, make sure to look at the terrain on which the tractor is being used. Uneven terrain, slopes and sites of excavation can become hazards, therefore, have a look at the terrain and look for safe spots to begin operation.

Thus, these are the top 5 tractor driving tips for maintaining safety.
